Today more than ever, your online presence can be vital to securing your dream job. According to CareerBuilder.com, 70% of employers visit candidates social media profiles as a screening process. In other words, think before you post, or it could prevent you from getting that next job interview.

Here are some smart ways to use social media to land your next job:

  • Post images and videos that align with the job you’re applying to. For example, if you’re interviewing for position at a ski resort, post photos of you skiing/snowboarding or participating in outdoor activities. Better yet, take a photo at the ski resort you’re interviewing for to show you are invested.
  • Make your Instagram account public so the employer can see your page and get a sense for your personality (see below for a list of no-no’s though).
  • Follow the accounts of the company you’re applying to and like a few of the photos to show you have interest and are familiar with the brand.
  • Double check your spelling and grammar. Double check your spelling and grammar.
  • Upload a professional photo to your LinkedIn page and make sure that your profile is complete and up-to-date.
  • Find out who will be conducting your interview and search for them on LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. Learn about their personality and see if you have any mutual connections or shared hobbies that you can talk about during your interview.

Be careful, though. When it comes to social media, some things can be a turn off for employers. Avoid:

  • Provocative or inappropriate videos or photos
  • Photos or videos of drinking or drug use
  • Comments/captions related to race, gender or religion
  • Criminal behavior
  • Posting too frequently
  • Lack of a social media presence and/or inactive accounts
